5 Romantic Ideas for Maui Honeymoons

  1. Visit Haleakala National Park - The Haleakala National Park is located on the eastern side of Maui.  There you will find the world’s largest dormant volcano. The Haleakala National Park, like many other parks in Hawaii, can be explored by foot, car, or bike.  In addition to the Haleakala volcanoes, you will be able to see and explore tropical landscaping that features rare flowers and plants, beautiful streams and waterfalls. If you want to put a real romantic spin on your visit to the park, you might consider hiking to watch the sunrise at the Haleakala Crater.
  2. Drive the Hana Highway - Also located on the eastern edge of Maui is the Hana Highway, a 68-mile-long stretch of Hawaii State Routes 36 and 360, connecting Kahului with the town of Hāna. Although driving a highway itself may not seem like a very romantic thing to do, the Hana Highway is one of the most scenic places to visit in all of Hawaii and what you see will amaze you. On the drive, you will pass through narrow, yet beautiful bridges, see amazing waterfalls, and get breathtaking views of the ocean. Definitely rent a convertible for this. And, make sure you allow plenty of time for the drive. Although the drive to Hāna is only about 52 miles from Kahului, it may take up to 3 hours. Why? Well, let's see... you're driving on a cliff overlooking the ocean, on a road with more than 600 curves, going about 10 to 35 miles an hour. But, the view is worth it.
  3. Take a Submarine Tour - Go on a submarine tour with Atlantis Submarines Maui, where you can explore 100 feet beneath the ocean surface, where the sunken Carthaginian, a replica of a 19th century supply vessel, rests.
  4. Take a Sunset Dinner Cruise - Numerous companies offer all sorts of boating adventures, with many offering sunset dinner cruises. Sip wine, enjoy fabulous food, and take in gorgeous sunsets, all while cruising the waters around Maui. Companies to consider include Pride of Maui, The Maui Princess, and Paragon Sailing Charters.
  5. Take a Zipline Tour - Soar above Maui on one of the zipline tours spread out across the island. Consider the Haleakala Skyline Tour which features a short hike with 5 zipline crossings, or the Kapalua Adventures which features a parallel zipline system so that friends and families (and honeymooning couples!) can go down at the same time.
