Honeymoon in the Poconos
If you’re looking for a romantic mountain
getaway, it’s hard to beat the Poconos. Located in northeast Pennsylvania, the region has earned its reputation as
a honeymoon hot spot. Its amazing views and romantic resorts are perfect for newlyweds, and a stay there is easier on the budget
than a honeymoon in an exotic locale. Here are some of the Poconos’ best honeymoon destinations.
Lakeville – This town is next to Lake Wallenpaupack, which borders the
Poconos to the north. The area offers a wonderful view of the peaks and a wide variety of recreation options.
Swimming, boating and fishing are popular water activities, and the surrounding woodlands are great for hiking and wildlife
watching. Lakeville is also home toCove Haven Resort; one of the Poconos’ most popular
couples only resorts. Their all-inclusive packages include water activities, meals, entertainment and
more.
Mount Pocono – This small, sparsely populated town in the heart of the
Poconos is the setting for Paradise Stream, another popular couples resort. Paradise
Stream’s suites feature a variety of amenities for honeymooners, including heart shaped tubs, heated indoor pools and
real wood burning fireplaces. A stay here includes meals, access to tennis courts and other recreational
facilities, nightly entertainment and other fun couples activities. Shopping and horseback riding are popular offsite
activities.
Marshall's Creek – Located close to the Delaware River, tiny Marshall’s
Creek is home to the Poconos’ other major all-inclusive couples resort, Pocono Palace.
This complex is the most convenient to New York City if you’re planning to make a day trip there. The property
features a beautiful lake and beach area as well as a number of nature trails. There’s also an exercise spa and a
variety of recreational options.
Jim
Thorpe – Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania is known as the Gateway to the Poconos. This small town is big on
recreation, with options including mountain biking, hiking and whitewater rafting. It’s also the former site of the
Mauch Chunk Switchback
Gravity Railroad and home to the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Station.
There are several great bed and
breakfasts and inns in town that are ideal for newlyweds. A couple you might want to consider are the
Harry Packer Mansion Inn, which was the model for Walt Disney
World's "Haunted Mansion," and the Inn at Jim Thorpe, which boasts a spa featuring hot
stone massages, and chocolate, lavender, and peppermint wraps
Milford – This town on the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border is brimming
with culture. It is well known as the home of science fiction writers such as Damon Knight, and as the setting for
some of D.W. Griffith’s silent films in the early 20th century. Milford hosts the Black Bear Film
Festival in October and the Milford Music Festival in June, so these are great times to visit. It’s also home
to the Grey Towers forestry and conservation center and the Pike County Historical Society Museum. Popular accommodations
for couples in the area include the Tom Quick Inn and the Cliff Park
Inn.
As you can see, there are plenty of
reasons that the Poconos are a popular honeymoon getaway. They offer all the amenities of a tourist destination in
a gorgeous mountain setting.
