Places to Stay During Your Key West Honeymoon

Many Key West resorts and smaller B&Bs offer honeymoon packages. Of course, don't let the lack of a specific honeymoon package keep you away from a venue. Just because there are no chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne awaiting you in your room doesn't mean a destination is lacking in romance! What are some of the standout hotels and B&Bs for your honeymoon in Key West?

The Ocean Key Resort and Spa - offering views of the Gulf of Mexico from every room, which makes you wonder if it wasn't designed just for honeymooning couples. The resort offers much in the way of amenities, including sunset catamaran sails and body treatments at their SpaTerre.

Knowles House - an elegantly-restored Conch House from the mid-1800s, located just five blocks from the shops and night life of Duval Street. The Knowles House is also a short walk to the Historic Seaport Boardwalk, and two blocks from the Ferry Terminal, which is where the Ft. Myers and Marco Island ferries dock.

The Knowles House offers special packages, the price of which varies depending on date. But, each package include a buffet breakfast served by the pool; a 1 1/2-hour sightseeing tour of Island for two on the Conch Train or trolley; admission to two of Key West's top tourist attractions; and your choice of a romantic sunset sail for two or a 1/2 day snorkeling expedition for two on a catamaran. In addition, honeymooners receive a complimentary bottle of champagne.

Azul Key West Resort - built in 1903 by a wealthy cigar baron, Azul Key West Resort is an adults-only restored Queen Anne-style mansion located in Key West's Old Town, just three and a half blocks from Duval Street and a five minute walk from the Hemmingway House.

Simonton Court Historic Inn & Cottages - a former cigar factory, this adults-only inn is located in the historic downtown area. In addition to offering lovely gardens and restored cottages, the Simonton Court Historic Inn & Cottages provides concierge service which can hook you up with all sorts of fun, honeymoon activities, such as snorkel trips, bike rentals, parasailing and ghost tours.

Lighthouse Court from the Historic Key West Inns - designed for couples (most rooms only have one king-sized bed), the Lighthouse Court is located one block off Duval Street, next door to the Key West Lighthouse Museum and across the street from the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum.  What sets Lighthouse Court apart is their Hemingway Retreat, a 1,000-sq.-ft. suite with a gourmet kitchen, private balcony facing the Ernest Hemingway Home and private sundeck facing the lighthouse.

Casa Marina, a Waldorf Astoria Resort - located on the southern edge of the island and boasting 1,100-feet of private beach, has a very interesting history. Just three days after it's opening on New Year’s Eve, 1920 President Warren G. Harding came to visit, thus establishing Casa Marina as an exclusive luxury destination. Since that time, however, the resort has changed hands many times and served many purposes, including being used as an officer's quarters during World War II.

Casa Marina is now in the Hilton Hotel family, having been restored and revamped with two outdoor tropical pools, a full-service spa, and private balconies with beach and ocean views. If you're into water sports, this is the place! The resort works with Key West Water Sports to provide you with many fun activities, including kayak, scooter and bike rentals, boat trips, snorkeling trips, scuba diving, and even a dolphin encounter trip in backcountry reefs.

Southernmost House - located just steps from the Southernmost Marker, the Southernmost House has also had an interesting history, having served as a private residence, as well as a Cuban Cafe. Most well-known as an inn which has hosted U.S. Presidents as far back as Harry Truman, as well as writers Tennessee Williams and Ernest Hemingway.  They offer a Romance Package with sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, but you might also want to consider their Key West Sunset Sail Package, which includes:

  • Two night's accommodations in their Historic Key West Room
  • Two-hour sunset sail
  • Breakfast for two
  • Top Key West Attractions

In addition to the many wonderful water sport opportunities, Key West boasts some one-of-kind attractions you might find interesting:

  • Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square - another great place to view the sunset, with vendors and performers
  • Duval Street - a famous downtown commercial street, running from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean, famous for its pub crawl
  • Dry Tortugas/For Jefferson - accessible by plane or boat, Dry Tortugas is a remote island 75 miles west of the Florida Keyes. There you'll find the abandoned fort, Fort Jefferson.
