Honeymoon in Costa Rica

The Central American country of Costa Rica is one of Latin America’s most beloved vacation spots. Its people are friendly, its beaches pristine and its air clean. Costa Rica has been praised as the world’s greenest country due to its efforts to protect the environment and aspirations to become the first carbon-neutral country.

Along with its warm tropical climate, these factors have made Costa Rica a favorite destination among honeymooners. Here are some of the best places in Costa Rica to spend your honeymoon.

• Malpais – Located on the Peninsula de Nicoya, Malpais is a favorite getaway for celebrities due to its beautiful white sand beaches with volcanic rock formations and relative isolation. The former fishing town is a popular destination among surfers and adventure travelers, and it is a wonderful place to honeymoon. In addition to the numerous recreation options, Malpais has a great nightlife scene. But for couples who just want to get away from it all, there are lots of quiet and secluded spots on the beach to enjoy.

• Manzanillo – The small town of Manzanillo is found on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Manzanillo has the laid back atmosphere of a fishing town and is known for its delicious fresh fish, shrimp, lobster and crab. Honeymooners can scuba dive and take dolphin tours on the coast, watch the native monkey species at Punta Mona or sit back and fish or sunbathe. Good places to stay in Manzanillo include Almonds and Corals Lodge and Villa Toucan.

• San Jose – The country’s capital, San Jose sits in the center of Costa Rica. A third of the country’s population resides in the San Jose metropolitan area. The city offers numerous cultural attractions, including museums, theatres, botanical gardens, orchestras and dance troupes. Latin, jazz, rock and dance music can be heard at the city’s many bars and clubs. A variety of romantic accommodations are available in the area, including Casa Lima Bed and Breakfast, Hotel Aeropuerto and Hotel Bougainvillea.

• Tortuguero – Tortuguero translates into “land of turtles,” and that name is quite fitting. The surrounding beaches are nesting sites for sea turtles, including many species that are endangered. Tortuguero is also adjacent to Tortuguero National Park, which is known for its biological diversity. This has made the village a hotspot for ecotourism and a favorite of nature loving honeymooners. Tortuguero is only accessible by boat or plane, but there are plenty of places to stay when you get there. These include Laguna Lodge, Mawamba Lodge and Manatus Hotel.

Wherever you go in Costa Rica, you’ll be in the midst of a tropical paradise. The country has miles of beautiful beaches, but there’s much more to it than that. Whether you want to quietly enjoy nature or party in the hottest nightclubs, you can do it on your Costa Rica honeymoon.
