Honeymoon in Colorado

With accommodations ranging from big city modern to cozy country cabins, Colorado has plenty to offer honeymooners. When you are planning your first trip as a married couple, consider some of these options for your honeymoon in Colorado.

Aspen

Aspen is known for its ski lodges and snowy mountains. If the two of you would enjoy a ski vacation, then this city could be just right. For a honeymoon, consider the St. Regis Resort. This accommodation has the look and the feel of a castle and is just a short walk from the city center. Designed to provide for honeymooning couples, the accommodation includes romantic in-room dining complete with wine and chocolates. The resort is also home to the Remede Spa, which provides numerous couples packages. But, don't take our word for it. The St. Regis has won many accolades in recent years, including:

  • Rated among the 500 Worlds Best Hotels in 2010 by Travel + Leisure Magazine
  • Rated on Conde Nast Travelers 2010 Gold List: Best places to Stay in the World

Telluride

Surrounded by the beautiful San Juan Mountains, Telluride is a well-known as a skier’s paradise. But, Telluride doesn't put out the "closed" sign when the snow disappears, offering honeymooners wonderful activities the year round: Hiking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, golf, and mountain biking. Or, you may want to take a romantic hot air balloon ride over the canyon. For your honeymoon stay, you may want to consider the Bear Creek Lodge. This lodge is designed in the style of a log cabin and includes everything you would expect from a rustic lodge. Each of the condominium style accommodations includes large, romantic fireplaces. A spa is available on site for couples who may want to enjoy a relaxing day.

Another spot worth a look is lumiere Telluride, a luxury boutique hotel located in Mountain Village. Upon arrival you're welcomed with a lit fire, glass of wine, and a selection of delicious artisan cheeses. And, how does a 7-layer bed with Egyptian cotton linens sound?

Boulder

Nestled into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains is Boulder, a place where outdoor-loving honeymooners come to celebrate their new lives as married couples.  Whether you want to hike, kayak, ski or take part in some incredible rock climbing, you'll find it all within easy access to Boulder. You'll also find some very romantic places to stay, including the Alps Boulder Canyon Inn, where you'll find the "Special Alps Signature Wedding Night Turn-Down Service."  With this service you call the Inn about an hour prior to your wedding night's arrival and they'll have the fire burning in your room's fireplace, with the bed turned down, the candles lit, flowers arranged, wine or champagne chilled and waiting, and white rose petals placed around your bed, fireplace and whirlpool tub for two. Now, that's romantic!

Manitou Springs

Located 65 miles south of Denver and 6 miles from Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs is your home base for visit to Pikes Peak, which, while not the highest peak in Colorado, was inspiration for the song, "America the Beautiful." If the two of you want a Colorado honeymoon of adventure and beautiful surroundings, this is the place. You can certainly drive up to Pikes Peak, or, as many people prefer, take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway up to the top. Many hikers also take the train to the top and hike down, which takes about 6 hours.

As for your honeymoon accommodations while visiting Manitou Springs, you may want to consider The Cliff House at Pikes Peak, which has won many numerous awards throughout the years, including:

  • "Top Ten Romantic Inn of the Decade" - American Historic Inns
  • "Top Ten Romantic Hotel" - Best of Citysearch Audience Winners
  • "Most Romantic Venue" - Fox 31 KDVR Denver
  • "Best Romantic Getaway" - Mountain Living Magazine
  • "Most Romantic Weekend Escape" - Denver Post

Estes Park

Located about an hour from Denver, Estes Park is a wonderfully romantic Colorado honeymoon destination. It offers many outdoor activities that many other Colorado mountain destinations do, as well as one thing many of them may lack: a famously haunted hotel. That's right; I'm talking about the Stanley Hotel. The Stanley Hotel served as the inspiration for Stephen King's novel, "The Shining." In fact, it's known as one of America's most haunted hotels. So, if you don't mind some ghostly company, and some incredible views in every direction, then check out the Stanley Hotel for your honeymoon.

If you're not into a haunted honeymoon, then another fabulous place is Romantic RiverSong. Yes, "Romantic" is part of the name. Romantic RiverSong is located on 27 wooded acres, offering you privacy and seclusion, as well as massages by the mountain stream and romantic tree swings. There are only 10 guest rooms, each one very unique, like the "Indian Paintbrush" room, with a bed suspended by logging chains in front of a fireplace; the "Wood Nymph" room with a deck 20 feet off the forest floor; and the "Forget Me Not" room with a large window with a view of the glaciers of Rocky Mountain National Park.
